IVECO 330.30 Overland

I haven't been very productive lately, but I've managed to make a new Moc.

This is an Iveco 330.30 Overland.

The Overland project was born in 1995 with the ambitious intent of drawing a portrait of our planet, exploring its most remote corners. The numbers of Overland, to date, are impressive: 22 expeditions in 25 years, over 565,000 kilometers of total distance, covered in over 2,300 days of travel across 445 borders of countries belonging to the most disparate geographic and climatic zones of the planet. The first 12 editions featured 4 IVECO 330.30, and each of the four vehicles was designed for a specific function: refectory, dormitory, workshop and spare fuel tank with also a warehouse for spare parts.

I started building this truck about a year ago and it was finished around February, just in time to show it at MEI 2022, and after a while I'm here to present it.

The main objective was to replicate something that was sufficiently accurate to the real model, mainly from an aesthetic point of view, but also, if possible, from a mechanical point of view. Also I wanted to use the new C + electronic system.

The truck has 6x6 drive with a center differential and a differential for each axle, the center and rear axle differentials can be locked (as on the real version). The suspensions are live axles. The axles are inspired by those of the 42129 Set.

It's driven by 4 C+ XL motors, which also control a fake V8 engine, the steering is operated by a C+ L motor, which also controls the steering wheel. Another C+ L motor locks/unlocks the differentials. It's powered by 2 C+ Control Hubs.

The doors can be opened as well as the hood and several storage compartments. It is also possible to open the door of the load compartment as well as to extract the access ladder.

From an aesthetic point of view, I believe that the desired result has been achieved, from the performance point of view, on the contrary, I am not very satisfied. I tried different configurations, with gearbox, with 6 C + XL motors, but the result did not change. The truck is slow and not able to overcome obstacles if not small ones. In conclusion, it is nice to look at.

Having said that, I gained some experience with the new C + system and I think I understand the reason for some choices made on the official Set 42129 compared to what was seen in the leaked images.
